Wayne Pennewell

President and Founder

Wayne founded PENN PRO in 1992 and has over thirty years of experience in mechanical engineering design and piping design of industrial facilities for refining and minerals processing.  He has a strong background in the phosphate industry.    

His experience is directly related to plant design and layout, equipment selection, specifications, construction management, and project scheduling.  In addition to his experience in mining, Wayne was heavily involved in many major capital projects in the phosphate chemical field related to DAP, MAP and feed ingredient plants. 

Wayne’s experience spans into the biofuels industry as well.  Wayne designed and managed construction of a major biodiesel and glycerin plant in Lakeland, Florida.  Following startup of that facility he went on to become the general manager of the plant.  Wayne is responsible for the leadership and guidance of the team members, project management, including contract preparation to project close-out and overseeing the financial and business operations.


Kris Pennewell

Vice President, Professional Engineer

Kris joined PENN PRO in 2010 and brought his extensive experience in civil/mechanical engineering, design, permitting and construction management to the team.  Kris received his Bachelors of Science in Environmental Engineering from the University of Florida and is a licensed Professional Engineer in Florida and North Carolina.  

As a former Engineering Manager at Black & Veatch for 10 years, Kris has extensive experience in all phases of project execution including planning, preliminary and detailed engineering, bidding and construction.

His comprehensive experience in the civil engineering field includes a variety projects, including petroleum storage terminals, chemical facilities, municipal water and wastewater pipelines, pumping stations, and treatment facilities. He also has experience in the design of water intake facilities and pipeline alignment planning and routing. 


Carissa Maul

Vice President, Finance

Carissa Maul is the Accounts Manager for PENN PRO.  She has been providing support and assistance to the company principals for over thirteen years and has held a number of positions in the company including safety director.  As the Accounts Manager, Carissa provides leadership and management direction in financial and accounting operations for PENN PRO, but she also serves as a key advisor to the president and vice president in all facets of administrative and financial concerns, including development of company strategy.  She works closely with the management and engineering teams to ensure efficient and effective financial management of the organization, including revenue generation and expense monitoring. 

Carissa manages and supervises the daily operations of accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, payroll and she coordinates staff work for the accounting department.  In addition, she is responsible for the preparation of monthly financial reports, year-end closing, and annual audits.  Carissa was a key contributor in the development and implementation of a new company policy manual and her expertise is often called upon to review policies, procedures and controls for contracts and human resources.   


Bob Herz

Vice President Engineering, Professional Engineer

Bob serves as Vice President of Engineering and is a registered professional engineer in Florida as well as numerous other states.  He has thirty eight years of experience in project engineering, project management and construction management.  His experience in seven diverse industries; shipbuilding and dry-dock, phosphate chemicals and mining, breweries, custom chemicals, waste water treatment, petro chemical, food processing, and foundry.  However, most of his experience over the years has been focused on upgrading and modifying operations of phosphate chemical facilities.  Bob coordinates projects to adhere to policies and regulations of government agencies such as EPA, Florida DEP, Hillsborough County EPC, building departments of Hillsborough, Polk, Manatee, Pasco and Orange counties.


Mike DeJesus

Process Engineer and Business Development Manager

Mike joined PENN PRO in 2008 bringing his thirty years of experience in Process Engineering, Management of Technical Services, and Plant Management to the group.  He is skilled in all facets of industrial manufacturing with specialized knowledge in the phosphate industry.  Mike has a proven track record of project management, financial management, and effective staff leadership.  Since joining PENN PRO, Mike has provided his process engineering assistance with phosphate and petroleum projects.  Mike is recognized as an innovative, creative, problem solver.  Mike received the AICHE "Hero of the Phosphate Industry Award" in 2006.


John Ellington

Professional Engineer

John is a registered Professional Engineer in several states who joined PENN PRO in 2001.  He has over 40 years of experience in phosphate mining, pesticides, uranium refining, soaps and detergents, fatty acid, fatty alcohol, and polyester chemicals.  His experience comes from several prior employers including Fortune 500 companies; Mobil, Mallinckrodt Chemical, Proctor & Gamble, and DuPont.  He designed pipelines, pumping systems, specialty chemical and sulfuric plants; managed hazardous waste; and achieved multimillion dollar savings with process innovation and redesigning equipment.  John has served on numerous industry research committees and professional organizations offices.  His reputation and accomplishments were recognized by his peers in July 2009 when he was named Engineer of the Year for the Central Florida Section of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers.


John Bannon

Civil Engineer, EIT

John has eight years of experience in Civil Engineering including site, utility and drainage design for large scale commercial and industrial projects.  He came to PENN PRO in 2012 and has proven to be a positive addition to the PENN PRO team.  John has practical experience in securing a wide variety of state and local regulatory permits including zoning and land-use approvals, site plan approvals, Water Management District permits and FDEP environmental and utility permits.  In his time with PENN PRO, he’s been responsible for managing numerous petroleum projects completing them under budget and on time for the client.
